Renaii's Eggs-Travaganza
SOLARFLARE’S 3D PRINTED EASTER EGGs
As Easter approached, the LAUNCH team went about turning our company mascot Renaii into some 3D-printed chocolates for the wider team. By using our Snap printer on its highest resolution and a tailored Blender model of Renaii, it was able to capture the fine details and print a 3D form for us make the sweet treats.
FROM CGI MODEL TO PHYSICAL OBJECT
After the printer had worked its magic, it was on to making the chocolate moulds. By securing the halves onto a piece of card and creating a surrounding framework, we poured some food safe silicone rubber over the 3D printed Renaii’s. A few hours later, the silicone mould had set, and we carefully peeled off the model.
“It was amazing to see how much detail the mould had captured right down to the layers in the 3D print.”

THE FINAL POUR
Finally ready for the chocolate, our CTO Stuart Cupit heated and poured it into the moulds. After an hour in the fridge, the moment of truth…Apart from a few bubbles, they looked like mini versions of our company mascot! To see the full process in action and the teams’ reaction to the bespoke goodies, take a look at our video below.
TIP: We use a neat little plugin called Octolapse to create these awesome time-lapses that connect and condense several hours of printing down to just a few seconds.
We’re always looking to expand our network of creative collaborators, from technical specialists to people that work in more traditional art forms. LAUNCH exists to blend the barriers between creative practices and new tech. Get in touch to explore ideas.
