AI TOUCH: Painting with Light and Gesture
OVERVIEW
At Solarflare Studio, we are exploring how physical input can shape digital output, keeping creativity and the human experience at the centre. Our Motion Brush tool is an interactive artwork that transforms touch, gesture, and movement into flowing, generative visuals.
Using a touchscreen canvas and body tracking, participants ‘paint’ with motion and light. Each interaction produces a one-of-a-kind composition, blending fluid simulation with real-time generative art. The result is a living, collaborative piece that evolves with every participant.
How It Works
The installation merges fluid simulation, body tracking, and AI-driven visuals. Touchscreen gestures create streams of colour and light, while full-body movements are translated into sweeping brushstrokes. Larger, faster gestures produce bold strokes and vibrant tones, while slower, more focused movements create softer gradients and flowing transitions.
Props can also be introduced, extending the interaction beyond the screen and opening playful new possibilities.
FUTURE POTENTIAL
Motion Brush offers a new way to visualise human motion as art. From exhibitions and brand activations to live performances, the system adapts to different contexts where audiences can become co-creators of the work. Future versions may expand into projection mapping, collaborative multi-user setups, or augmented reality, creating even more immersive experiences.
