Paint With Your Whole Body
AI Touch is a touchscreen artwork that combines physical gesture with full-body tracking to let participants paint with light using every part of themselves. Touch the screen with your hands and the painting responds. Move your body in front of the tracking camera and a second layer of the composition responds to that. Every gesture, a fingerprint pressed into the surface, an arm swept across the frame, a slow turn, produces a generative light composition that accumulates on the canvas in real time. The piece was built around the idea that making should feel physical and full, that the gap between a finger on glass and a body in space should not be the limit of what a digital artwork responds to.
Two Input Layers, One Canvas
The technical build handles two simultaneous input streams: touch data from the screen surface and skeletal tracking data from the body camera, both feeding into the same generative rendering pipeline. The challenge was ensuring the two streams produced a coherent visual output rather than two separate compositions overlaid on each other. We built a compositional logic layer that uses touch input to anchor and seed the visual elements, and body input to drive their evolution and propagation across the canvas. A touch point becomes a light origin. Body movement determines where that light travels and how it transforms. The result is a piece where physical proximity to the screen and physical movement in the room are both productive.
